Onshore U.S. oil and gas assets were sold in 2018 and the remaining Petroleum assets were spun off and merged with Woodside in 2022, with BHP vesting the Woodside shares it received to BHP shareholders. It was bad enough that Monday was tax day! The major indices gapped higher to start the week, but gave up their gains by lunchtime and then saw some strong downside acceleration before stabilizing in the final hour. The S&P 500 (SPX) lost 1.2% and is down 2.6% in the past two days, booking the largest drop since late in October of 2023. Since its all-time high (ATH) close on March 28, the SPX is off 3.7%, its largest 11-day drop since October. The Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) fell 1.7% for a two-day decline of 3.2%. The index has given back 3.4% since its March 22 all-time high.
