Wawa opening 40 new stores in Central Pennsylvania; Here’s where

CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA (WHTM) — Wawa has confirmed plans to open 40 new stores across Central Pennsylvania, with its first locations opening in late 2024.

On Wednesday, April 17, Wawa representatives visited the Harrisburg area for a community event and to break ground on their first Central Pennsylvania store in Dauphin County, located at the Harrisburg Pike and Meade Road in Middletown.

“It’s official – Wawa is spreading our wings to reach Central Pennsylvania, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share details of our exciting growth plans with our newest soon-to-be neighbors!” Brian Schaller, President of Wawa said. “Our Community Day and groundbreaking events gave us the opportunity to meet new faces and share a little bit about our history and what makes Wawa such an ideal fit for communities here. We are thrilled to break ground on our first store in the region, launch our expansion plans and get closer to our first grand openings in 2024.”

According to Wawa, new stores in Middletown, York, Dover, Williamsport, Hanover, and Enola will be coming to Central Pennsylvania’s market by the end of 2024. The company also says that up to 12 new stores in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lycoming, Northumberland, Union, and York Counties will be opening by the end of 2025.

Altogether, Wawa plans to have up to 40 new stores opening in Central Pennsylvania over the next 5-7 years.

Wawa says they will invest approximately $7 million for each store and will employ on average 140 contractors and local partners. Each new store will employ about 35 associates — together about 1,400 new jobs will be created as a result of Wawa’s Central Pa. expansion.

According to Wawa, the company has Wawa stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, D.C. with nearly 1,000 locations to date.
