British Footwear Association Names Richard Shetliffe as CEO

The British Footwear Association (BFA) had named Richard Shetliffe as its new chief executive officer, effective Tuesday. He replaces Lucy Reece-Raybould, who left the group in January after five years as CEO.

The BFA is a a membership-based organization that includes UK-based footwear manufacturers, designers, wholesalers, service providers and retailers.

“Richard brings superb industry experience and a remarkable record of driving growth in footwear businesses,” said BFA chair Jane Wilson in a statement. “He has an impressive global network and is well-liked and respected across the industry. The board and I are eager to work with Richard as we pursue our strategic goals to support and serve the membership.”

Shetliffe’s more than 30-year career in footwear and accessories has spanned companies such as Dr. Martens, Ben Sherman, Vagabond, VF Corporation the Dune Group and Havaianas. Most recently, he served as a consultant for luxury shoe brand.

Prior to that, he spent almost 15 years at Alpargatas S.A., culminating in his role as director of the Northern Europe region. During his time there, he helped set up the company’s U.K presence.

“I am thrilled to be joining the BFA as chief executive officer,” Shetliffe said in a statement. “I am excited to explore the opportunities that exist within the BFA and it is a genuine privilege to be able to represent the footwear sector. I also look forward to forging close relations with our members and key stakeholders to ensure that we are building a strong community that supports, represents and promotes the sector.”
